Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds To Star In Buddy Cop Film

Duo will reportedly play police officers who are forced to work on a case with their fathers.

Deadpool and the A-Team’s Faceman may soon be fighting crime together. It’s an odd pairing that will be made even stranger by the fact that each will bring his dad along.

Heartthrob Ryan Reynolds and equally heartthrobby Bradley Cooper are attached to star together in an untitled action comedy, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The duo will star as a pair of San Francisco cops who are forced to work with their former-cop fathers on a case. THR reports that the comedy is “meant to have an updated ‘Lethal Weapon’ flavor that plays into edgier R-rated territory,” so expect profanity and lewd behavior to go along with the high body count.

The script comes from “Up in the Air” scribe Sheldon Turner, who reportedly sold it for a seven-figure sum. The pitch was first developed by producers Neal Moritz and Andrew Panay five years ago with the title “Blowback”; back then, Dwayne Johnson was attached as one of the stars. Moritz and Panay are producing this second crack at the concept, as are J.C. Spink and Chris Bender of the production company Benderspink and Jonathon Komack Martin of Reynolds’ Dark Trick Films. No studio is set yet, but Moritz and Panay are set up at Sony.

Reynolds has spent this summer shooting and promoting next summer’s “Green Lantern” adaptation. He’ll show up next month in Lionsgate’s indie thriller “Buried.” Reynolds is also supposed to be reprising his 2009 role as the joke-cracking mercenary Deadpool in a reboot of the character that Robert Rodriguez may direct.

Cooper showed up earlier this summer as Faceman in “The A-Team.” He’s got a sequel to the smash 2009 comedy “The Hangover” lined up for a May release. He also recently finished shooting for Neil Burger’s sci-fi thriller “The Dark Fields” with Robert De Niro and Abbie Cornish.

What do you think of Ryan Reynolds and Bradley Cooper being in a movie together? Let us know in the comments!

Kanye West Drops ‘Monster’ Single With Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj

Rick Ross and Bon Iver also appear on the song from West’s joint album with Jay, Watch the Throne.

Kanye West is making good on his word.

The outspoken MC announced Sunday that he’ll be dropping a new track every Friday until Christmas with his “G.O.O.D. Friday” campaign. On Friday (August 27), West posted “Monster” on his KanyeUniversecity.com blog, an eclectic all-star collaboration featuring contributions from Jay-Z, Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj.

West collaborator Bon Iver also lends his folky vibe to the track. The Chi-Town lyricist tweeted that the track was the second offering from Watch the Throne, his newly-announced joint album with Jay-Z.

An ominous chorus of distorted vocals opens the track just before Ricky Rozay kicks off his verse over the beat, which is a meaty slice of choppy, drum-driven boom-bap. “Bitch, I’m a monster/ No good bloodsucker/ Fat mother—-er/ Now look who’s in trouble,” Ross spits.

Then Kanye enters the fray: “Gossip, gossip/ N—a, just stop it/ Everybody know/ I’m a mother—-in’ monster.” Yeezy rides the beat with several more hard-hitting, bravado-laden bars, unapologetically feeling himself as he wraps up with “My presence is a present/ Kiss my ass.”

Hov abandons his typical crisp, cool lyricism and attacks his verse with a hungry, almost sinister flow. “Sasquatch, Godzilla, King Kong, Loch Ness/ Goblin, ghoul, a zombie with no conscience/ Question: What do these things all have in common?/ Everybody knows I’m a mother—-in’ monster,” Jay rhymes.

Although the track surfaced the same day Minaj tweeted about supposedly marrying Drake, the Young Money Barbie shows no signs of possibly being mellowed by a relationship, delivering a collection of punch lines buoyed by her trademark energy. “Pull up in a monster/ Automobile gangsta/ With a bad bitch that came from Sri Lanka/ Yeah, I’m in that Tonka/ Color of Willie Wonka/ You can be the king but watch the queen conquer,” Minaj rhymes.

What do you think of “Monster”? Let us know in the comments below!

Lindsay Lohan’s ‘Machete’ Castmates Wish Her Well

Jessica Alba and director Robert Rodriguez praise the actress’ performance, a day after her release from rehab.
By Kara Warner

LOS ANGELES — Given the fact that Lindsay Lohan was released from rehab just one day before a special screening of her new film “Machete,” the odds of her attending the event were slim. Nevertheless, her co-stars lamented her absence and had wonderful well-wishes for the troubled actress.

Everyone from Don Johnson to the film’s leading man, Danny Trejo, to Cheech Marin and Michelle Rodriguez all had glowing praise for Lohan, who plays the rebellious daughter of a powerful senator’s aide. Jessica Alba, who plays a saucy immigration officer, was excited for people to see Lohan onscreen again.

“She’s so good in this movie,” Alba said emphatically. “I can’t wait for people to see [her in] it.”

“Machete” director Robert Rodriguez agreed. “She’s awesome in the movie,” he said, adding that when audiences see Lohan back in action, on her acting game, they’ll remember why they paid attention to her in the first place.

“That’s what they’ll see: the actress behind all that paparazzi nonsense that follows her and won’t leave her alone,” he said. “They’ll get to see her and say, ‘Oh, that’s why we follow her around.’ ”

After reporting to the Century Regional Detention Center on July 20 for her 90-day jail sentence, Lohan was released after less than two full weeks in custody thanks to good behavior and chronic overcrowding at the facility. She went straight from jail to the UCLA Medical Center on August 2 to begin the rehab phase of her sentence for a probation violation from a 2007 DUI conviction.

Lohan is said to be going back to work on her Linda Lovelace biopic, “Inferno,” and will continue to receive care on an outpatient basis.

Cee-Lo Reflects On Complex Career: ‘I’m A Book, Not A Magazine’

‘It is a continuation of the same revolution I have always talked about,’ he tells MTV News of his many genres.
By Shaheem Reid

Cee-Lo

The magical voice of Cee-Lo translates whether he’s singing songs that make immediate impact on pop radio like his latest single, “F— You,” or records that capture the hearts of the hip-hop community like his feature on Rick Ross’ “Tears of Joy.” For the Atlanta legend, he said singing is a perfect way to release his pain and that he will continue to show his versatility.

“It’s simple, man. Me and Ross got history. We holla,” Lo said about the latter record. “On the few occasions that we’ve met, it’s always love and admiration. To do the record, of course it would have to been the right record. Who would have known ‘Tears of Joy’ would have been so immediate and apparently urgent of a song? It reverberated immediately. I’m never too quick to say, ‘This is a hit record.’ I don’t even know how to talk like that. Each artistic endeavor of mine has always been an act of faith. I don’t really know. I’m only doing what my heart and gut tells me to do. But I already know what comes out my mouth is different. Then again, there’s something so signature about the ‘Tears of Joy’ joint. It reminds you — especially my fellow Southerners — it reminds you of a Goodie Mob record.”

When Lo ran into Ross earlier this year in L.A., the Miami kingpin told him about the song he wanted to collaborate on. Ross sent the song off, and in two weeks, it was completed.

“He had verses on it already,” Cee-Lo said. “But [the words] ‘Tears of Joy’ is all I needed. Ross did Ross, which is great. [The song] represents the contrast/contradiction which is life.”

Cee-Lo said “Tears of Joy” almost represents a “homecoming” for him in the eyes of some fans to his soulful roots, first introduced with Outkast and his group Goodie Mob. Cee-Lo also argued that he’s actually never left those musical beginnings; he’s just simply ventured out and experimented on such projects as Gnarls Barkley’s two LPs to show his peers and the fans how far hip-hop could go and to express his different sides.

“It is a continuation of the same revolution I have always talked about,” he insisted. “It’s the fact that people don’t know me completely. I’m just now telling you more about myself. I’m a book, not a magazine.”

Lo’s next album, Lady Killer, comes out later this year, and he’s also working on the next album from the Mob.

“The solo album is something completely different,” he revealed. “I got that mixtape out there, Stray Bullets, which is a prequel to the album Lady Killer. That’s got nothing to do with what I do with Goodie, besides quality. But Goodie, man, that’s what ‘Tears of Joy’ represents. I hope people can see the bigger picture. None of that is lost in me. I ain’t got so rich and famous that I separated from the soul. That’s me, that’s what I’m about. It’s on the tip of my tongue at all times. It’s people wanting that and needing that, that’s all the incentive I need. That’s what makes my life worth living, especially when I remember there was time I ain’t have nothing constructive to say. So any time I can do it, I feel like I’m further ensuring good favor in my rights of passage, being pleasing in the sight of my maker. It truly means that much to me. My pain runs deep. All of that is behind what I got to sing.”

For anyone wondering when Cee-Lo will make a full-throttle return to rapping, he said it will be on the Goodie Mob reunion LP, which doesn’t have a release date yet.

“When people be asking why I don’t rap no more, it’s not that. … It’s gotta come,” he explained. “I’mma isolate that to the Goodie Mob. That’s all I care to rap about. Rappin’ is like a contact sport. It’s an attitude. So the only thing I get angry about is the calls [about me not rapping]. That makes me wanna fight. As far as somebody stepping on my shoes, because we standing too close to each other, I don’t have that problem. Nobody does what I do. I don’t have no conflict. So I can do what eases my mind. I do believe that music is not meant to agitate; it’s meant to soothe the savage beast. I’m one of them beasts. It soothes me. I’m impressed, because I can separate myself from it and give credit to a higher power. It ain’t really me. To be able to sing is a blessing to me. But really, you hurt so bad, sometimes I can’t even rap about it. I gotta sing. That’s why it always hurts a little bit no matter what I’m singing. There’s pain in it. As far as Goodie goes, I got that. That’s all I’m trying to tell y’all.”

Lady Killer has a tentative release date in December.

‘Avatar’ Star Stephen Lang Talks Crazy Fans, Villains And Na’vi Sex

‘I get a lot of people coming up to me and saying, ‘I really hate you,’ ‘ actor says of his villainous character.
By Eric Ditzian

Nine months after “Avatar” first came out and Stephen Lang found himself in the middle of a globe-blanketing PR campaign, the 58-year-old actor is getting a kick out of doing it all over again.

Following the $2.4 billion success of its original release, James Cameron’s “Avatar” is headed back to theaters on Friday, and Lang is back doing the interview circuit, amiable as always, in stark contrast to his scenery-chewing, do-not-cross-me villain in the 3-D blockbuster, Colonel Miles Quaritch. Stopping by the MTV newsroom recently, Lang chatted about the new footage in the “Avatar” special edition, how his career has changed in the last year and some of the crazy fans he encounters these days.

MTV: How’s it feel to be back in the world of Pandora?

Stephen Lang: Everybody’s entitled to a victory lap! Above and beyond that, there has been this hankering for more information about this world that Jim created, and Jim is responsive to that and excited to bring back some of the footage it was probably painful for him to cut in the first place.

MTV: Have you gone back and seen the new footage?

Lang: Yesterday, I viewed all the new stuff. I was surprised at how emotional it was, just to re-enter the world and to be reminded what an extraordinary period in my life this has been. I’ve been doing other things and “Avatar” subsided for a while and it’s been a lot of fun for it to rise up again.

MTV: Is there any new footage from Colonel Quaritch to look forward to?

Lang: There are bits and pieces of me. There’s a little bit more of my fighting, there’s a little bit more of my black-heartedness. There’s still plenty of Quaritch scenes that are somewhere else.

MTV: Yeah, I know you guys filmed a ton of stuff way back when. Were you hoping any of that got picked and given the finishing treatment?

Lang: I think that several scenes like that may well be on the DVD that comes out with lots of additional things. What Jim wanted to do here is showcase the planet itself — the creatures, the landscape. You see some creatures that you hadn’t seen before, and they’re stunning. There’s a love scene.

MTV: I was going to ask you about that — the extended Na’vi sex scene.

Lang: There’s an extended Na’vi sex scene, but that doesn’t cover it. It’s a very sensual and sensitive and sort of erotic scene. It’s the ultimate blue movie, you dig what I’m saying? But there’s no sex scene between Quaritch and [Sigourney Weaver's] Grace or anyone else, which is unfortunate.

MTV: How have things changed for you, personally and professionally, since the movie came out?

Lang: I don’t think that personally they’ve changed so much. I’m pretty set or formed. I’ve been kicking around a long time. I think I probably am happier than I was. I feel quite satisfied. I think every actor wants to be part of something that can be considered a piece of cinema in a significant way, and I feel that way with “Avatar.” I think professionally it certainly has goosed things for me. There are more interesting opportunities.

MTV: Are you getting a lot of the villain roles?

Lang: Some villains come across my desk. I read them. Of course, after doing Quaritch, who I admit is the villain of the piece, you tend to compare everything to that, and I don’t want to repeat myself, or I don’t want to do a pale reflection or imitation of myself. I like to think I have range as an actor. I’d really like to get the girl. And by “get the girl,” I don’t mean kill her!

MTV: Have you had any interactions with wacky fans? Anyone screaming at you on the street, “You’re not in Kansas anymore”?

Lang: I get a lot of people coming up to me and saying, “I really hate you.” And they say it in the nicest possible way and I accept it. It’s the people who come up to you and say, “I really liked your character. Man, he was right!” Those are the ones you worry about.

James Cameron Admits Some ‘Avatar’ Footage Will Never Be Released

‘There are things you will never see,’ he tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner

James Cameron

Photo: MTV News

The re-release of the biggest movie in history is just one day away! For the fans who haven’t decided whether to make the trek to theaters to see the nine extra minutes James Cameron and crew added to “Avatar,” we have some news about the impending release of the film’s DVD and Blu-ray editions straight from the source.

When MTV News caught up with Cameron recently to discuss the film’s re-release, we asked if fans will ever get to see everything via bonus features, extended cuts, etc.

“There are things you will never see,” Cameron admitted. “But there’s a whole lot of stuff that will definitely satisfy the appetite of even the most hard-core fan in a big box-set DVD that we’re actually preparing right now.”

In addition to preparing the film for the re-release, Cameron said his team is also prepping the special-edition DVD and Blu-ray versions. “It’s all happening at the same time, because the deadline for mass-producing stuff for the Christmas marketplace is pretty much now anyway,” he said. “The re-release that we’re doing now with the nine additional minutes is carefully architected for the theatrical experience. But we have more extended-play versions of the film or an extended version of the film that will be available in the Blu-ray, and there will be a whole bunch of supplemental stuff with about 45 minutes of deleted material.”

Cameron explained that the reason fans won’t ever get all of “Avatar” comes down to money. “We got the budget to finish this nine minutes, and we got the budget to finish the 16-minute longer version [the special extended edition], and then beyond that, it didn’t make sense to finish all the extra CG and digital effects.”

Will you go see the re-release of “Avatar” for the nine extra minutes or wait for the DVD and Blu-ray versions? Let us know in the comments!
